A 2010 government study found that over 200,000 Indian farmers have killed themselves in the past ten years. The numbers are steadily rising. On average one farmer now commits suicide in every 30 minutes.
Many unsuspecting farmers are persuaded that genetically modified seeds, pesticides, and fertilizers from companies like Monsanto will increase their profits, but the results are often fatal.
